Welcome!

Welcome to my newsletter! I’m Jackie Kirkham, and I write about nature, environment, place, and other things that take my fancy, make me laugh, or otherwise engage my brain and senses.

In 2023 I published my first book, The Calm Place, which was an account of noticing the nature in my tiny garden in Stirling, Scotland over the course of a year. That year turned out to be 2020, and the garden and its inhabitants became ever more important to me as the covid pandemic and lockdowns turned the world upside down, while I worked (in fact I still do) as a nurse in the NHS. This newsletter is where I continue to muse on what I learnt during that year of experiencing nature on my doorstep, as well as new things I’m writing, adventures as a new author, and recommendations for other books and newsletters. I’d love to have you join me!

Welcome to my newsletter! I wrote The Calm Place about my garden during the 2020 lockdowns, and this is where I continue to notice nature, champion nature writing, and rediscover calm (and occasionally shill my book, but I'll try not to do that too much!)
